We only get one shot at Life, and I am determined to make mine count.

I started off a little rough in life. I was 16 years old when I became pregnant with my oldest daughter and I delivered her nine days after turning 17. When I was 18 years old, my mom became extremely sick, and I have been taking care of her for 21 years. 

I got to a place where I just couldn’t afford to take care of everybody in my life. I asked God to help me, and He threw me into the roofing industry.

I enjoy the Roofing industry. I’m good at it. Starting out, however, I was naïve.  I did not realize how dark and dishonest this industry can very easily be. I worked so incredibly hard just to have thousands of dollars taken from me by dishonest employers.  I almost gave up. I am glad I didn’t. I remember holding my long-term paycheck in my hand that was so incredibly short! I had been taken advantage of and my heart was broken, but I was sure that the roofing industry was where I belong.

Not only was I taken advantage of, but homeowners are being hurt by unscrupulous contractors that take advantage of the unsuspecting people.

I found a roofing company that I absolutely fell in love with. The owner was great, so was my team. There was only one problem, I wasn’t able to help everybody. There always had to be the right profit margins. I had to turn some people away because the money just wasn’t there. That was devastating to me. 

As a business owner I understand profit margins are important, but I cannot let the profit margins be the only consideration in helping people. I watched hard-working, dedicated fathers, mothers, and husbands putting in overtime, sweating, and giving all that they have, to give their family a better life. Then you see those same people being taken advantage of by unscrupulous contractors or insurance companies.  It is infuriating.

People are routinely taken advantage of by both unscrupulous contractors and insurance companies that prioritize reducing claims payouts over properly adjusting and restoring a property. People will file their claim due to a hailstorm or windstorm. The insurance company sends out an adjuster that will deny their roof claim and allude to alleged policy mumbo-jumbo, that makes no sense, to confuse the policyholder and underpay the claim. 

The underpaid claim means little or no profit margin and thus no one wants the job. Then the bad contractors can swoop in and take further advantage of the homeowner so they can do a poor job and make a profit.

Though the law prevents a contractor from advocating for the policyholder, we can work to ensure the claim includes all the work that needs to be done for a proper restoration of the damage at a fair market price.

I’m willing to do whatever it takes, put in the hours, and put in the sweat, to fight for everyone. Large or small, it’s about the principle. People need to be treated fairly and honestly by both the contractor and the insurance carriers. I work just as hard on a small job as a large job. It’s about not letting huge corporations take advantage of the little guys who pay for their private yachts.

I started my company so that I don’t have to turn anyone away. I want the ability to go down every single avenue, no matter how much effort it takes, to do the best I can for every single person. 

Seeing the way that some of our veterans are treated is especially appalling. Knowing that some of these big corporations have their employees sitting in their Air-conditioned offices in the free country that these veterans fought and bled for makes me nauseous.  If I, in my contractor role, can do anything to help our veterans restore their damaged property, I will do so. I am also committed to supporting the Wounded Warriors.

My determination is to provide a superior roofing service, in every way, to benefit the people.

I prayed about it. I asked God to open every door if it was well for me to start my own company. I didn’t want to take away any more time from my family than I absolutely had to. Needless to say, I felt like I saw God open every door. 

So here we are. My Roofing Lady is up and operating. I am not sure where God is going to take me, but I am ready to go! My partner is also a light in my life. He is absolutely determined to make a difference in this industry. He’s a man of integrity, faith, and vast knowledge. He’s a treasure and I am so proud that he’s my business partner. I really feel like God hand selected him for me. With the two of us teamed up, determined to be a light in a dark industry, there’s no stopping us.
